ELECTROLUX Oven Knob Turns But Nothing Happens – Causes & Fix

If your ELECTROLUX oven knob turns freely but the oven doesn't respond, it's a confusing and frustrating fault.

You turn the knob, select a function, change to a different setting — but nothing activates. No heat, no fan, no response whatsoever.

This is a specific fault on ELECTROLUX ovens and in most cases points directly to an electrical failure inside the component connected to the control knob.

So what's usually causing it?

1. Burnt or failed selector switch contacts

The selector switch sits behind the knob and works by closing internal electrical contacts when the knob is turned. If those contacts burn out or fail, the knob can turn freely and click normally between settings — but no electrical signal is sent and the oven receives no power regardless of which function is selected.

👉 Strong sign it's the selector switch if:

• The knob turns and clicks normally when changing settings but the oven does nothing
• No functions respond — no heat, no fan, no reaction when selecting any mode
• The oven was working normally before this fault appeared suddenly

On Electrolux ovens, models such as the EOB976 and EOB63000X are documented with completely failed selector switch contacts — the knob continues turning and clicking normally through every setting, but the switch stops sending any electrical signal to any function, leaving the oven completely unresponsive.

2. Broken spindle connection between knob and switch

If the spindle connection between the knob and the switch shaft breaks, the knob spins freely without actually turning the switch underneath — meaning no contacts are engaged regardless of which setting you turn to.

👉 More likely if:

• The knob feels unusually loose or spins without any resistance
• There are no clicks at all when turning between settings
• The knob was previously pulled off and refitted

3. Internal wiring fault

A burnt or disconnected wire between the selector switch and the oven's functions means that even a fully working switch cannot send power anywhere — producing exactly this symptom regardless of which function is selected.

👉 More likely if:

• You can smell burning from behind the control panel
• The fault appeared immediately after the oven tripped the electrics
• The selector switch has already been tested and found to be working
