If your DELONGHI oven knob won't turn or has become stuck on a setting, it's more than just an inconvenience.
You try to select a different function — but the knob resists, feels stiff, or simply won't rotate past a certain point.
This is a recognisable fault on DELONGHI ovens and in most cases the issue lies directly with the mechanical component behind the control knob itself.
So what's usually causing it?
1. Faulty or seized selector switch
The selector switch sits directly behind the control knob and is the mechanical component that allows movement between cooking functions. When it seizes, wears out or its internal cam mechanism breaks, the knob loses its ability to rotate freely.
👉 Strong sign it's the selector switch if:
- The knob turns stiffly or clicks irregularly between positions
- The knob is completely stuck and won't move at all
- The oven stopped working at the same time the knob seized
On DeLonghi ovens, contact burnout and mechanical wear on the selector switch are well-documented faults — models such as the EDB475 and DEF905 are reported with seized or broken internal cam mechanisms that prevent the knob from rotating between positions, leaving the oven locked on a single function.
2. Damaged or broken control knob
Sometimes the knob itself cracks or the internal spindle connection breaks, making it feel stuck even though the switch behind it is fine.
👉 More likely if:
- The knob visibly wobbles or feels loose at the base
- You can hear the switch clicking normally but the knob won't engage
- The knob was previously forced or knocked
3. Debris or residue build-up
Grease, cleaning product residue or food debris can work their way around the base of the knob and into the switch mechanism, causing it to stiffen or seize gradually over time.
👉 More likely if:
- The knob became gradually stiffer over time rather than suddenly
- There are visible signs of residue around the control panel
- The oven was recently cleaned with liquid products near the controls
If any of these situations match what you're experiencing, it's very likely that one of these components needs attention or replacing.
